World Diabetes Day was observed across the world on November 14, 2018 with the theme ‘The Family and Diabetes’.
The theme aims to raise awareness about the impact of diabetes on the family.
The World Diabetes Day was instituted by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2007
Diabetes is a chronic, progressive non-communicable disease (NCD) characterised by elevated levels of blood sugar (blood glucose).
It occurs when either the pancreas does not produce enough of the insulin hormone or the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.
